homework 8 - TJ

Project Izzy

The site will be at the Children’s Hospital on Eddy Street. They have a little park area there now, but we could build a nicer and better one for the kids. The park will be there because it would be right outside the hospital and easy for the kids to go. This design will respond to the site very well because kids will be excited to have a new park to play on. The hospital would look nicer. Also, The Met would get good responses because of the students that build this project. Instead of it being just a hospital park, it should be a community park so kids in the community can go there and have fun too. The kids from the hospital can meet new kids instead of the same people every day. I was thinking we could build a jungle gym, some slides, sea saws, and maybe a pond? A gazebo with flowers around it, and any new ideas we think of along the way. First we will have to find out what materials we’ll need and how much everything will cost. Next we would have to write up letters to company’s to ask to donate materials and supplies to make this project happen. Then we will have to come up with a proposal and a model or sketch of the park. We’ll have to sit down and talk to the CEO of the hospital to get approval of the project. After we’d have to get our materials and start the building on the project. The park could be maintained by the janitors at the hospital since it will be on their property.
The thing that inspires me about this project is how the project its self got inspired by a little girl that stays smiling even though she’s ill. This would be a project that I would work on, on the weekends and in any spare time I can because it’s going to be for a good reason and make the community a lot prettier. Since this little girl inspired the project, we should call the park “Park Izzy.” This project doesn’t go with any of my interest outside of school because I'm getting older and don’t really go to parks anymore to play. But I do enjoy helping people or making something better. To contribute to this project I would help write, draw and design. Mostly I would like to do the building because that’s what I’m good at and enjoy doing. I would build a picnic table, some benches, possible a swinging bench.
This project is an amazing idea and it would be wonderful if we went through with it. It gives kids hope and makes them smile and that would make me feel amazing as a person to know I’m the one who helps put that smile upon their face.
