Assignment #10: Intervention

After completing your mapping of the site, think of how you would like to change the space. What does it need and why?

What did you learn from your mapping?

What are you proposing to build?

Now draw it.

Due Tuesday April 5th: two drawings, one plan, one elevation of your proposal. Please make them large enough, and dark enough to read from across the room. We will be having formal presentation on Tuesday in front of guest critics and faculty advisers. Please come prepared for class.

assignment 9 map (Matthew)

What my memory map draws to is the building in the second park. The whole park is built for the kids in the building. What I specifically remember about the building is the window thing at top of the building that blocks the vents and boxes. I also put the random fence int the park as well because it gives the park the feeling of home to the kids in the hospital. The final thing I put in was the trees. They provide shade for the park and are inessential to the few landscape design.

Assignment 9 / Memory Map

Memory Map:
From the discussion and work begun in class create a memory map for review on Tuesday March 29th.  The MAP can be a collage, a drawing, a relief, etc. at 11 x 17" or LARGER.  Include the most salient MEMORIES or IMPRESSIONS from your site walk.

Review your completed map, and on a separate sheet identify three of the most important ideas represented in your map.  Remember- IDEAS are not objects like roads or buildings.   Please read  EBONEY'S class review if you need to refresh your memory.

The site were I would build my prov plaxza would be at Swater ST and point ST. I chose this place because the city has talk about taking down the old highway and making a part in its place.

the design will respond to the site by have a skate plaza but also have it have some green open space to hang out or have a work out space out side.

we will make the plaza so that it can be used by more then just skaters. even if it is not unusual for skaters to be skating with well other people are useing the place for other things they will get used to it just how they do it with the skating rink at KP. this project can be used by the city during there water fires and with many other events as well.At many different times of day and different times of year the year.

we will build the the park with other peoples help like other skaters that we could ask to help us. i know that there would be many skate or BMX shops or companies that would wont to be invalid because we would be able to advertise for them and the plaza would create more of a skate community so it may bring more people to by there gear.

the park will be maintained by the skaters if you wont to skate here you have to help when ever you can
my role in the project would be to help design and build the park help i would be making sure that this park would be able to be used for many other thing then just to skate or bmx.
the part of this project that inspires me is building something that people would enjoy hanging out at and able to do what thy like to do. I like to BMX in my free time so i would really enjoy having sower to hang out with friends to learn some new tricks. I also enjoy listing to music so tis plaza could also be used as a place to have events so if you do not skate or BMX you can enjoy as well. I also like to play the guitar so this would be a great place for live music.

Assignment #8 Seth

I saw the post with the word "rap" and i knew I had to try it,
so this proposal; i'mma rhyme it
and maybe you'll all buy it
so many plans brought up
and so many are so similar
do I have to chose one?
or can I put 'em all together?
let's give it a shot
and let's start
with the 411 spot.
so it's a teenage space
not space-age
it's just for chilling
but we can chill at a park
if we are willing
and when it gets dark
we should be at home anyway
no more skating for today
you've been skateboarding since yesterday
which is another thing to relate
a park where if you want to skate
just feel free
or maybe just kick back and enjoy the scenery
like for example maybe
a flower garden so serene
that it'll leave you thinking
but wait-
what if someone like graffiti
and defaces the public property
just to make it all obscene?
well maybe this can be
another thing to work for us
we'll give taggers a canvas
and let them show their art before us
and on the other side we could maybe show an image
of an independent film or a Call of Duty schrimage
and I don't see why all of this
can't be by the hospital
and inspire all the little kids
to push for what's impossible
to make it just improbable
and maybe that's the inspiration:
the source of drive to carry on
to put in all the perspiration
and what gives me determination
is that it's not just about me
me, myself,
and everyone else
sometimes just doesn't know what to so with themselves
so they see a movie
so this is how you see
it benefits the community
it's that kids aren't just loitering
scaring all the elderly.
so i'll go make some mini-ramps
and draw some concept plans
and even research precedents for intellectual demands
so we can build half pipes
and quarter pipes
and jungle gyms
and kiddie slides
'cause it's for children in the morning
and teens in the evening
all of this at once?
nah, it think we'll phase it.
first the skate park,
to lay a solid foundation.
we're starting with all the bowls because they make huge indentations
so you've got to have room
and then when you do
we can move in all the kid slides
little ladders and chutes
and when it's looking cute
we add the finishing touches
the rose garden and the wall to be sure no one will touch it.
and the very last thing,
we bring on the projector
at night we show some films
and have someone as a protector
so when all the fun is done
they bring the tech stuff home
because you know we can't just leave it outside all alone
after all of this is over
call it a job well done.
this concludes my proposal
so peace out, i've got to run.

Assignment 8: Eboney

Part 1: my favorite prjoect was project Izzy. this project is building a better place for sick children & adults at the Rhode Island hospital. i dont know exactly what will be built, but i know the idea is a small park for the children to go and forget about the real world, and sctually be a kid & have fun.

Part 2: the part that inspires me is that this is for a number of children that dont have much to look forward to. they are so innocent and half of them dont have a clue what so ever on why they are in the hospital with IV's and constantly taking different medicines.
this goes w/ my personal interests because i love kids, i love helping people, and i love giving to things or someone that doesnt have much
some things i can add to this is my rose garden. i can research the place and figure where my project would fit on this site, and if its effective or not.

Assignment 7: Rose Garden
