Gamers Edge

My Project is to have a weekly event that I call Gamers Edge. What it is going to be is a weekly video game competition that I would like to hold outside. Every Saturday for about 5 to 6 hours and teams would play, for everyone to see, on two separate consoles, probably Xbox 360’s, and on two separate projectors. Teams would pay to play in and a champion would be announced every week.

This would be for everyone and anyone. This isn’t just for the younger people, though I’m sure most of the participants will be from the ages of 13-25. I would hope that people from different ages and races will participate in this. I would also like this to be more about working together than just winning, and that’s why you would have to play in teams of 4. I am also thinking about picking teams at random so people are forced to work with new team members. That would be for people who don’t already have complete teams.

I do not have a specific spot yet, but I would like the area to be urban. I would like to do it in a parking lot or empty place where I can project the games on a wall.

The only similar project I can really relate this to is an outdoor movie project. There is one on Westminster St, Providence RI called Movies on the Block. On their facebook it says “Providence’s only outdoor movie screen opens for its third season. Every Thursday beginning June 4, 2009 and running through September 24th, movies will be screened at dusk on the corner of Westminster St. and Union St. Pop hits, cult classics and even some local shorts.” This is similar because what this program is doing is a weekly screening where people come together for one reason. Their reason is movies while mine is video games.

My idea is unique because there has not been anything like this in Rhode Island before. There have been video game competitions, but nothing ever consistent. Also, the competitions usually aren’t team affiliated and that is something I really want to input on these competitions. My project is also unique because there hasn’t really been anything this major in Rhode Island for video game lovers. Never can video gamers can come together every week and play against one another and just have fun. That is why my project is unique.

3\8\11 what we reviewed on tuesdays class was about project ideas, we also watched a video on how the youth got into action and build something from scratch no funding nothing they did all from there pockets and used there time. we brainstormed ideas for a project that would benefite the community. we also went over the different materials people had and spoke of ways to innovate those materials and give new life.
